What can we see at Saint-Peter in Gallicantu ?
Saint-Peter in Gallicantu commemorates the appearance of Jesus before the High Priest Caiaphas, his death sentence imposed by the Sanhedrin, the Denial of Peter and his repentance when the rooster crows.
You can visit :

  • a neo-byzantine church ant its mosaics,
  • a crypt with its icons,
  • a deep pit known as the dungeon into which Jesus was held captive,
  • a Holy Stairs undoubtedly taken by Jesus several times,
  • a model of the Byzantine Jerusalem,
  • several archeological sites,
  • a belvedere with a panoramic view of Jerusalem.

What are the opening hours ?
The sanctuary is opened from Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
Closed on Sunday, December 25th and January 1st.

When is the best moment of the day to visit the sanctuary ?
We recommend you to come before 10am or in late afternoon to avoid the crowd.

Where can I purchase an entrance ticket ?
Tickets can be purchased on site, at the entrance of the sanctuary.

Will I have to wait a long time to enter the sanctuary ?
No, you won’t wait long before getting a ticket.

Are there any guided tours available ?
No, groups often come with a guide and individual visitors can find informative flyers at the entrance of the church as well as explanatory signs.

Is there a walking tour we should follow ?
There is no particular tour to follow. Visitors are free to visit the sanctuary in any way they would like. However, an itinerary is recommended for people with reduced mobility who would like to take the inclined surfaces.

How long does it take to visit the site ?
About one hour.

Is it possible to take pictures and videos ?
Pictures and videos are allowed for a personal usage. Film crew must get a written permission in advance.
